So you’ve paid the deposit and set the date – you’re ready for the photography session of your family or little ones. It can be stressful to think about what to wear, what to bring, and when to plan your session. (not during naptime!) You want your images to look like they should be in a magazine right? Here are a few tips to help your photographer when styling a shoot that’s just right for your family.
For this little one’s three year portraits, Mom and I collaborated to come up with some ideas to really showcase his personality at 3. I love how happy he is in these! The first thing we discussed was a prop that was special to them. How awesome to use his great grandfather’s chair for this session. It added such cute style and had such a special meaning for his family. When planning for your session, look around your house at the items that have a special meaning to you.
Second, don’t be afraid to add fun colors or mix things up. Style doesn’t have to be expensive – I love the cute shirt/sweater combo his mom found at Target. They weren’t matchy matchy and the patterns coordinated to give him that magazine style look.
Last, think about your child’s personality – what do they love? This little one LOVES his cape from Neverland Nook, and it was so cute that he had it to wear at the end of his session. I love how it has a J for Jackson – just another element of the session that made it unique to Jackson at three years old.
So next time you’re planning a photography session for your little one, think about adding a prop that is special to your family, choosing fun colors/patterns, and adding something that captures their personality right now.
